The Madras High Court has directed filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon and his production house to repay ₹4.25 crore with 12% interest to a financier, dismissing their appeal against an earlier ruling.
A division bench upheld the 2022 judgment, stating there was no reason to interfere with the order. The case dates back to a 2008 agreement where funds were given for a Tamil film project that was never completed.
The court noted that despite receiving money, the makers failed to even begin production and could not provide proper evidence to support their claims of expenses. It also rejected the argument that the later film Nee Thane En Pon Vasantham fulfilled the original agreement.
Observing a breach of contract, the court ruled in favour of the financier, adding that the producers failed to justify their actions and attempted to avoid liability.
