In a massive development for Indian cricket, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has reportedly been sold to an Aditya Birla Group-led consortium for a staggering ₹16,720 crore ($1.78 billion), making it the most expensive cricket franchise in the world.

The new ownership group includes global investors like Blackstone and Bolt Ventures. The deal was approved by United Spirits Limited (USL), with parent company Diageo exiting as cricket is no longer a core business for them.

Fresh off their IPL 2025 title win, RCB remains one of the most popular teams, boasting a massive fanbase and strong brand value. The new owners have expressed confidence in taking the franchise to greater heights both on and off the field.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals has also reportedly been sold to a Kal Somani-led consortium for around ₹15,300 crore, signalling a major shift in IPL franchise ownership ahead of the 2026 season.
