Nick Kyrgios (born April 27, 1995, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia) Australian tennis player who earned widespread acclaim as a talented and entertaining player. He has won seven ATP Tour singles titles, including the 2019 and 2022 Washington Open, and reached eleven finals, most notably a major final at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, and a Masters 1000 final at the 2017 Cincinnati Masters.

Nick Kyrgios Early life

Kyrgios was born and raised in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia, and his father, George, is originally from Greece and worked as a painter; his mother, Norlaila, is from Malaysia and was as a computer engineer. He has two elder siblings, a brother, Christos, and a sister, Halima. Nick played basketball as well as tennis while growing up, excelling in both sports. Nick and his family eventually chose to focus on tennis, though he never lost his love for basketball. At age 15 Nick received funding to train as a tennis player at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). In 2012 he teamed with Andrew Harris, another player training at the AIS, to win the junior doubles competitions at Wimbledon and the French Open. In January 2013 Kyrgios won the Australian Open junior singles title.

Nick Kyrgios Professional career

Kyrgios won his first match on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour during the first round of the 2013 French Open. The following year he had a breakthrough match as a professional when he defeated Rafael Nadal, then ranked number one in the world, in the fourth round of Wimbledon. The upset marked the first time since 1992 that a male player who was ranked outside of the top 100 beat a world number one at a Grand Slam event (Kyrgios was ranked 144th at the time). Kyrgios advanced to the Wimbledon quarterfinals but lost to Milos Raonic in four sets.
