History of Mahavir Jayanti
As per Jain texts and religious scripts, Lord Mahavira took birth on the 13th day of waxing moon 599 B.C on the Chaitra month in Kundalpur, Bihar, a few kilometers from Patna.
He was named as Vardhaman by his mother and father – King Siddhartha and Queen Trisala. When Mahavira was 30 years old, he left his home and family in search of truth. e spent the next twelve years in deep silence and meditation. In the end he realized perfect knowledge, power, and happiness. This realization is known as keval-jnana.
He spent the next thirty years traveling around India campaigning to the people the eternal truth he realized.
He organized his followers, into a fourfold – Sadhu, Sadhvi, Shravak , Shravika. It is known as Jain
How is Mahavir Jayanti celebrated?
Mahavir Jayanti is a festival of prayers and fasting. The holiday is especially popular in the eastern state of Bihar, where Mahavira was born. A great celebration is held at the Parasnatha temple, Calcutta.
Lord Mahavir died
Mahavir was the 24th and the last Jain sage
At the age of 72 Mahavir died and his pure soul left the body and achieved complete freedom. He became a Siddha, pure mindfulness, a freethinking soul. On the night of his salvation, people celebrated the Festival of Lights in his honor.
