TV Actor Traced to Pune After Complaint in Delhi
New Delhi, Sept 4: Television actor Ashish Kapoor, who rose to fame with shows like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Dekha Ek Khwaab, has been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with an alleged rape case. He was picked up from Pune after weeks of tracking, officials confirmed.
The Complaint and FIR
According to police, a woman approached Civil Lines police station in Delhi earlier in August, accusing Kapoor of sexually assaulting her during a house party. The alleged incident took place inside a bathroom, and the FIR was filed on August 11. Initially, her complaint named multiple individuals, but later she revised her statement, accusing only Kapoor.
Reports suggest the complainant also claimed the assault was recorded on video, though investigators have not recovered any footage so far. Authorities are now seeking legal advice as the probe continues.
Police Investigation
An officer revealed that Kapoor was first traced to Goa but managed to evade arrest. He was eventually located in Pune, where he was staying with a friend, and was arrested on Tuesday. “Our team has been on the lookout for him since the complaint was registered. He slipped away once but was later caught in Pune,” the officer said.
Who Is Ashish Kapoor?
Born in Delhi, Kapoor started his career as an interior designer before moving into television. He made his acting debut in 2010 with Ssshhh… Phir Koi Hai and became a household name after playing Prince Uday Veer Singh in Dekha Ek Khwaab. Over the years, he appeared in several popular shows including Bandini, Saraswatichandra, Woh Apna Sa, Molkki, Love Marriage Ya Arranged Marriage, and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.
Kapoor was once engaged to TV producer Pearl Grey, though the relationship ended a year later. He has not yet issued a statement regarding the allegations.
