Here, actor Rajpal Yadav, before surrendering to Tihar Jail in connection with a long-running cheque bounce case, admitted in an emotionally surcharged tone that he is financially broken and has no support. The visibly distressed actor said as quoted by News X: “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain… yahan hum sab akele hain. There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.”

The case was registered in 2010, over a ₹5 crore loan Rajpal Yadav had taken for his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd. As his film did not do good business at the box office, he was unable to return the amount to his financer, which ended with multiple cheques of Yadav bouncing and legal action being taken against him under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

In 2018, a magistrate’s court convicted Yadav and his wife and sentenced them to six months in jail. At one point over the years, appeals and partial repayments were made, and in 2025, they paid ₹ 75 lakh, but due to delays, the pending amount reportedly rose to nearly ₹ 9 crore.
