Controversy He was subjected to the criticism after his remarks on the beef issue which read: “Muslims can live in India, but they must stop eating beef.” Following this statement, the party stepped in and stated that it had nothing to do with the party and that those were his personal views. Within 24 hours of the statement, he said, “My statement was twisted, but if that still hurt the sentiments of people, I apologize for that.”

Manohar Lal Khattar Personal Life 

Born on May 5, 1954, in Nindana village of Meham tehsil in the Rohtak district of East Punjab, India, Manohar Lal Khattar hails from a Punjabi Hindu family. His father, Harbans Lal Khattar, had relocated to the village from the Jhang district of West Punjab after the Partition of India in 1947. Initially settling in the Banyani village of Rohtak district, the family engaged in farming.

Khattar successfully completed his matriculation (final year of high school) at Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government College in Rohtak. Subsequently, he moved to Delhi, where he managed a shop near Sadar Bazar while pursuing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Delhi.

Manohar Lal Khattar Political career

In 1977, Manohar Lal Khattar joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and assumed the role of a full-time pracharak three years later, maintaining lifelong bachelor status during his tenure in this capacity. After dedicating 14 years to his role as a pracharak, he transitioned to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1994.

From 2000 to 2014, Khattar served as the Organizational General Secretary of the BJP in Haryana. During his tenure, the state unit initiated the publication of Bhajpa Ki Baat magazine in October 2000. Additionally, he held the position of Chairman of the BJP’s Haryana Election Campaign Committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections and later became a member of the BJP’s National Executive Committee.

In 2014, Khattar emerged as the BJP’s nominee for the Karnal constituency in the Haryana Legislative Assembly election. Despite facing opposition from the party’s Karnal supporters who sought a local candidate, Khattar secured victory, aided by the Modi wave, against his rival, Indian National Congress candidate Deepender Singh Hooda, who accused him of being an “outsider” to Karnal. Khattar won the election by a significant margin.
