Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to the Calcutta High Court saying That his petition should be heard by another judge. Mamta Banerjee has filed a petition against the victory of Subhendu Adhikari of BJP from Nandigram seat. Right now this case has been given to Justice Kaushik Chanda. In the letter written on behalf of the Chief Minister by her lawyer to the Chief Justice, two reasons have been given behind this appeal of Mamta Banerjee.

The first reason is that there are reports that Justice Chanda was earlier associated with the BJP, Mamata Banerjee said that ‘there is a reasonable apprehension of partisanship.. . In favor of the Respondent…” In this petition the Respondents are officers. He also said that in the month of April he had also objected to the confirmation of Justice Chanda as a permanent Judge of the Calcutta High Court. He said, “Justice no. Not only should it be, but it should be seen to be happening,” he added, stressing the need to “maintain public confidence in the judiciary”.
