When Tanmay was just 19, he slammed a century on his Ranji Trophy debut match against Goa. Tanmay followed his good performances from the Ranji Trophy as he scored a century on his List A debut as well. He came to prominence when Tanmay made a 48-ball-91 against Goa and then followed it with a score of 85 runs off 49 balls against Tamil Nadu in the domestic T20 competition.
