Pingali Venkayya was the unsung hero of India, who gave the tricolor(Tiranga) to the country. The Tiranga is a symbol of the pride of our country. Pingali Venkayya Birth:-

Pingali Venkaiah was born on 2 August 1876 in Bhatala Penmaru village, Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. His father’s name was Pingali Hanumantha Rayudu and mother’s name was Venkataratnamma.

Pingali Venkaiah acquired his early education from Bhatala Penmaru and Machilipatnam.

Pingali Venkayya Career

Pingali Venkayya shifted to Mumbai at the age of 19.  After going there, he took up a job in the army, from where he was sent to South Africa.

He had a good knowledge of a wide variety of languages, including Urdu and Japanese. He was a zoologist, agricultural scholar, and educationist who opened several educational institutions in Machlipatnam. Specialized in diamond mining. Pingali had also served in the British Indian Army and participated in the Anglo-Boer War of South Africa. During that time period, he came in contact with Gandhiji and was very impressed with his ideology.

From 1906 to 1911 Pingali was mainly engaged in the comparative study of different varieties of the cotton crop and he published a study on Baumvolart Cambodia cotton.

He then returned to Kishundaspur and devoted himself to the study of various flags from 1916 to 1921 and eventually developed the current Indian flag. He died on July 4, 1963.

History of tri-color:-

Pingali Venkaiah thought of making such a flag in the year 1916 under which all the countrymen could fight their battle. SB Boman and Umar Somani also supported Pingali Venkaiah in this work and all three together established the ‘National Flag Mission’. Pingali Venkaiah also met Mahatma Gandhi and sought his advice to make the national flag.

After examining the flags of more than 30 countries, Pingali Venkaiah made a flag with three colors in view of the secularism of India. They used red to represent Hindus, green to represent Muslims, and white to represent all other religions. Others). Along with this, to show the progress of the country, the Charkha was also placed in the white band.

Some changes were also made over time in the flag prepared by Pingali Venkaiah. saffron color (red to orange) was used instead of red color to represent Hindus. After this, the Dharmachakra of Emperor Ashoka (Ashok Chakra in Indian Flag) was replaced by removing the spinning wheel(Charkha). Thus, on 22 July 1947, the tricolor was recognized as the national flag.

Pingali Venkaiah’s death:-

Very few people know about Pingali Venkaiah, who made the national flag of our country, and always remained in oblivion. Pingali Venkaiah died in 1963 in a small hut in Vijayawada. Even after his death, the governments of our country did not take care of him. Years after his death, in the year 2009, the Government of India issued a postage stamp in his honor, which also had his photo. At the same time, in the year 2016, BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu installed a statue of him in the All India Radio building in Vijayawada.
