Early life

Nitish Kumar was born in Bakhtiyar Pur Bigha in a Kurmi family. His father was a freedom fighter. And was very close to Anurag Narayan Sinha, one of the founders of modern Bihar. His father was an ayurvedic physician. Nitish Kumar got a degree in Electrical Engineering from Bihar College of Engineering (NIT Patna) in 1972. And later joined the Bihar Electricity Board but his mind was not to join the electricity board and later went into politics.

Nitish Kumar was involved in the total revolution of Jayaprakash Babu in 1974 and 1977. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1985. In 1989, he was elected the secretary of the Janata Dal. And at the same time, Nitish Kumar was also elected a member of the 9th Lok Sabha.

For the first time in 1990, he joined the Union Cabinet in the room of the Minister of State for Agriculture. In 1991, he was once again elected to the Lok Sabha and this time he was elected the secretary of the Janata Dal. He also became the deputy leader of the Janata Dal in Parliament. He was also the Union Minister of Railways and Transport from 1998 – 1999, but due to the rail accident in Gosala in 1999, he had to resign from the post of minister.

When did Nitish Kumar become the Chief Minister for the first time?

In the year 2000, Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister of Bihar for the first time but he had to resign within 7 days. In the same year, he was again made the Agriculture Minister in the Union Cabinet. Nitish was the Union Railway Minister in the Vajpayee government from May 2001 to 2004.

November 2005 succeeded in overthrowing the 15-year-old power of RJD. Due to the development work done by his government in the 2010 Bihar assembly elections, he again succeeded in getting his alliance to victory and again became the Chief Minister. In 2014, he resigned as Chief Minister due to his party’s poor performance in the parliamentary elections. On 17 May 2014, Nitish Kumar gave the slogan ‘Jai Bihar, Jai Bharat’ and resigned as Chief Minister.

 Nitish Kumar was married to Manju Kumari in 1973. Manju was a teacher in a school in Patna. They have a son named Nishant. Nishant was born on 20 July 1975.
