Nitish Kumar was born in Bakhtiyar Pur Bigha in a Kurmi family. His father was a freedom fighter. And was very close to Anurag Narayan Sinha, one of the founders of modern Bihar. His father was an ayurvedic physician. Nitish Kumar got a degree in Electrical Engineering from Bihar College of Engineering (NIT Patna) in 1972. And later joined the Bihar Electricity Board but his mind was not to join the electricity board and later went into politics.
Nitish Kumar was involved in the total revolution of Jayaprakash Babu in 1974 and 1977. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1985. In 1989, he was elected the secretary of the Janata Dal. And at the same time, Nitish Kumar was also elected a member of the 9th Lok Sabha.
