National Nutrition Week 2022
National Nutrition Week (NNW) is celebrated every year from 1 to 7 September across the country. The main objective of celebrating Nutrition Week is to raise awareness of the importance of nutrition for better health, which has an impact on growth, productivity, economic growth, and ultimately national development. It is an annual nutrition program launched by the Food and Nutrition Board, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
National Nutrition Week is celebrated every year from 1st September to 7th September by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. During this period a week-long campaign is organized to create public awareness about the importance of proper nutrition in protecting the health and well-being of children.
History of Nutrition Week
National Nutrition Week was first organized in March 1975 by members of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), now known as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, about the need for nutrition education. It was started to raise public awareness as well as to promote the profession of dieticians. The public response was so positive that the week-long festival was extended for a month in the year 1980.
After this, in the year 1982, India adopted this new mode and decided to start National Nutrition Week every year from 1 to 7 September. This campaign was created to educate people about the importance of nutrition and urge them to lead a healthy and well-being lifestyle.
Significance of Nutrition Week
A phrase that said that ‘a healthy mind resides in a healthy body’. Nutrition is the most important part of our daily life. Access to nutritious food is not only a right of the present generation, but it is also an issue of survival, health, and development of future generations.
Lack of nutritious food not only causes diseases like diabetes and heart disease in young children but also reduces their immunity against diseases. As a result, the mental and physical development of malnourished children gets stunted, which affects them as well as the future of the country. To educate people about this, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India organizes a week-long National Nutrition Week It emphasizes the significance and function of proper nutrition in the human body. A balanced diet rich in vital nutrients is important for proper functioning and growth. The Govt. of India has launched action concentrated on nutrition, decent food, a healthy body, mind, and lifestyle.
The theme of Nutrition Week
Celebrating National Nutrition Week every year, the Government of India also launches a specific theme/theme in which it focuses more on the specific theme/theme of that year.
The theme for the 2021 National Nutrition Week is “feeding smart right from start”. The government has set up a program to provide correct information and raise awareness through seminars and camps. These help in imparting knowledge to every child and citizen of India that how children can benefit from a good nutritional diet right from birth.
The theme of National Nutrition Week in the year 2022 has not yet been announced by the Government of India and hence we have not mentioned it yet. But we will update you about it as soon as it will be announced by the Government of India.
