About Manvendra Singh Some Lesser Known Facts
Before venturing into politics, Manvendra worked as a journalist for prominent publications such as the Statesman and the Indian Express.
Joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in the late ’90s, he contested the 1999 Lok Sabha elections from the Barmer-Jaisalmer constituency in Rajasthan but faced defeat against Sona Ram of the Indian National Congress.
Despite the setback, Manvendra demonstrated his commitment to national service by actively participating in the Kargil War in 1999 as a member of the Territorial Army. His perseverance paid off in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, where he secured victory in the same constituency, defeating Sona Ram by a substantial margin.
During the 14th Lok Sabha, he served as the representative for the Barmer-Jaisalmer constituency and held a significant role as a member of the Standing Committee on Defence.
In 2013, he achieved success in the Vidhan Sabha Election from the Shiv constituency in Rajasthan, representing the BJP.
However, in 2014, his vocal opposition to the BJP Lok Sabha candidate in his father’s constituency led to his suspension from the party.

From his early days, he has been associated with Sangh and Vidyarthi Parishad.
In 1985, he secured election to the legislative assembly of Uttar Pradesh, and subsequently, he served three terms as a member of the Legislative Council.
On January 21, 2021, he achieved an unopposed victory along with 11 other candidates in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections. Earlier, he had held the position of acting chairman of the council from May 2002 to August 2004. Additionally, he was elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council, U.P., serving from August 2004 to May 5, 2006
