Battle of Saragarhi

21 Sikh soldiers were stationed on Army post on Saragarhi Fort. Afghans felt that winning this small post would be quite easy. But this proved to be a huge mistake in his understanding.

The Saragari war was fought on 12 September 1897 between the British Indian Army and the Afghani army. This war happened in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, which is now in Pakistan. In the British Indian Army, there were 21 Sikhs in the fourth battalion of the Sikh Platoon, which attacked 10 thousand Afghani soldiers. Havildar Ishwar Singh, who led the battalion, decided to fight for such a dying death. It is considered one of the greatest ends in wars in history in military history. After two days of war between the British Indian soldiers and Afghani soldiers, the other Indian army had again occupied that place. Now in the memory of this war by Sikh military personnel, they celebrate September 12 as Saragari Diwas.

Afghan wins but they also suffered heavy losses. Two days after this war, the British Army invaded and re-captured the whole post

Those huge Indian soldiers were posthumously awarded the Indian Order of Merit, the highest award of bravery from the British Empire. This award is equivalent to today’s Param Vir Chakra.
