Kangana Ranaut Kangana Ranaut Actress Early life and background

Kangna Amardeep Ranaut, born on 23 March 1987 in Bhambla (now Surajpur), a small town in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, comes from a Rajput family.[4][3][5][6] Her mother, Asha Ranaut, serves as a school teacher, while her father, Amardeep Ranaut, is a businessman. Within her family, she has an elder sister, Rangoli Chandel, who, as of 2014, works as her manager, and a younger brother, Akshat. Kangna’s lineage includes her great-grandfather, Sarju Singh Ranaut, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly, and her grandfather, an IAS officer. Her upbringing took place in a joint family setting at their ancestral haveli (mansion) in Bhambla, which she fondly described as a “simple and happy” childhood.

During her formative years, Kangna Ranaut displayed a “stubborn and rebellious” nature, challenging gender stereotypes and societal expectations. She vividly recalled instances where she resisted traditional gender-based gifts and experimented with fashion, often creating combinations that appeared “bizarre” to her neighbors. Kangna received her education at the DAV School in Chandigarh, focusing on science as her major subject. Describing herself as “very studious” and “always paranoid about results,” she initially aspired to become a doctor, following her parents’ wishes. However, a setback in the form of a failed unit test in chemistry during twelfth grade prompted her to reassess her career path. Despite preparing for the All India Pre Medical Test, Kangna did not appear for the exam, deciding to seek her “space and freedom” by relocating to Delhi at the age of sixteen. Her choice not to pursue medicine led to ongoing conflicts with her parents, particularly her father, who refused to support what he deemed an aimless pursuit.
