Hardeep Singh started his career in Civil Services as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs from 1994 to 1997, later again from 1999 to 2002 as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. Later, he once again served as Secretary to the Government of India (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs from 2009 to 2013.

Hardeep Singh has held diplomatic positions in countries like Brazil, Japan, Sri Lanka and the UK. Between 1988 and 1991, he was on a visit to Uruguay for multilateral trade negotiations as the coordinator of the UNDP/UNCTAD Multilateral Trade Dialogue Project. was spotted.
